Small Leather Goods & Wear
Bali Handmade Leather Sandals Shop Online
Cut, shaped and stitched by hand from full hide rather than pressed from moulded sheets, which is why each pair follows the foot slightly differently and softens into your own shape after a few weeks of wear. We make sandals to order in our own workshop and ship them worldwide, with sizing confirmed before production so a pair bought online fits like one bought in person.

Vegetable-tanned leather is tanned with plant tannins instead of chrome salts, and it is the material that darkens and moulds to your foot over time — the effect people describe as a sandal “breaking in”.
That is the practical difference between a handmade pair and a mass-produced one: the footbed records how you actually walk, rather than staying the same shape from the first day to the last.
Hand construction also changes how a sandal can be repaired. Straps that are stitched and riveted rather than glued in a single moulded unit can be replaced when they wear, and a footbed can be resurfaced.
A sandal made as one bonded piece usually cannot.
The Build
What Makes Bali Handmade Leather Sandals Different?
The footbed records how you actually walk, rather than staying the same shape from the first day to the last.
- Full hide straps cut individually, not stamped from a sheet
- Footbed that shapes to your arch and toe position over time
- Stitching and rivets at stress points instead of glue alone
- Edges burnished by hand so they resist fraying
- Colour that deepens with sun and wear rather than peeling
Sizing
How Does Online Sizing Work If You Are Not In Bali?
Foot length alone is not enough to fit a sandal, because two people with the same length can need very different strap lengths depending on instep height. We ask for a traced outline of both feet on paper with a ruler in the photo, plus your usual size in a brand you already own, and we work from that rather than a single number.
-
Trace both feet flat on paper, standing, with weight on the foot
-
Photograph the tracing next to a ruler or tape measure
-
Tell us your usual size in a brand you own and how it fits you
-
Mention any instep, width or arch issues you already know about
-
We confirm the final measurement set in writing before cutting
Feet are rarely identical, so we size to the larger foot and adjust the strap on the smaller side. Where a style allows, we build in adjustment holes so you can fine-tune the fit after the sandals arrive, which matters because feet swell in hot weather and on long flights.
The Styles
Which Sandal Styles Suit Beach Wear Versus City Wear?
Sand and salt water are harder on leather than pavement, because repeated wetting and drying draws oils out of the hide and stiffens it. That single fact should decide your style and finish more than fashion does, so we ask where the sandals will spend most of their life before recommending a build.
| Style | Character | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Simple cross-strap slide | Open, quick on and off, minimal stitching | Beach clubs, pool, short walks |
| Toe-loop sandal | Holds the foot forward, secure stride | Everyday town wear in warm weather |
| Multi-strap or gladiator style | More coverage and structure | Evening wear, dressier outfits |
| Closed-back sandal with heel strap | Most supportive, holds on uneven ground | Walking days, markets, travel |
If your trip mixes both, many customers order two pairs in different finishes rather than asking one pair to do everything. Sandals also pair naturally with other small leather pieces, and clients often add a matching item from our Bali leather belt range in the same hide colour.
Care
How Should You Care For Leather Sandals In A Tropical Climate?
Leather dries fastest when it is left in direct sun or next to a fan, and fast drying is what causes cracking at the flex points. The correct approach after your sandals get wet is boring but effective: wipe off sand and salt, let them dry slowly in shade at room temperature, then condition the leather lightly once they are dry.
Condition sparingly
Over-oiling softens the straps until they stretch and lose their hold, which is a more common problem than under-conditioning in a humid climate.
A thin application every few months
Or after a soaking, is enough for most wearers.
Store somewhere with airflow
Rather than sealed in a plastic bag, where humidity encourages mould.
Ordering
Ordering, Shipping And What Happens Next
Sandals are made to order, so the workshop begins cutting only after sizing is confirmed and the order is agreed. We quote each pair after you choose the style, leather and sole build, because those three choices change both the material cost and the labour involved. Timelines depend on the current workshop schedule, and we confirm yours in writing when we quote.
International orders ship with tracking. Import duties and taxes are set by your destination country’s customs authority, not by us, so check your local rules before ordering if that affects your budget.
If you would rather see the leather in person first, you can visit the studio and browse finished pieces at our Bali artisan bag shop, or read how the wider range works in our Bali leathercraft online store guide.
